Graduation Stories

Graduation Stories

Graduation is a very special time at PHILLIPS Programs. The excitement begins long before the end of the school year. Throughout the year PHILLIPS’ Seniors begin preparations to celebrate this important milestone and accomplishment.

Graduation is a shining moment in our students’ lives and the staff at PHILLIPS Programs make it as special and personal as possible.

Trudy Bell, PHILLIPS School ~ Annandale Program Director, reflects on graduation as a time that “our students and their families can enjoy the accomplishment of reaching this milestone.”

Many of PHILLIPS seniors receive special awards and scholarships during graduation.
PHILLIPS Programs dedication to our students does not end with graduation. We work with the students to help them continue their education or find job placement.

  • 7 students received the E. Lakin Phillips Memorial Scholarship, which was created in memory of our founder.
  • A Laurel senior received prestigious 4-year scholarship from Maryland Senator Nathaniel Exum.
  • 17 students continuing their education at local community and technical colleges.
  • 10 students will be entering the workforce.
  • Awards from local community organizations including the Annandale Rotary Club and Foundation.

“I attended PHILLIPS Programs for five years, and learned to control my temper and find ways to help me be a better me. PHILLIPS’ staff helped me so much and showed me ways for me to succeed in public school. After leaving PHILLIPS, I graduated from Colonial Forge High School. I recently received a scholarship to Dean College in Franklin, MA, where I will be studying early childhood development. In every speech or paper I write, I mention PHILLIPS Programs and how much everyone there helped me.”
