Thoughts on Youth Blog

Whether you are parenting a child with autism or not, one can imagine the complexities of emotions that parents face daily. Numerous studies demonstrate that the stress on the family and mothers in particular as they tend to be the primary caregiver, are significant. A poignant interview with the parents and twin brother of a youth with autism aired on This American Life, titled Unconditional Love that left the listener with a better understanding of what life must be like on a daily basis for so many families. Unconditional Love is an episode that should be listened to by our elected representatives and those in the school systems and social services. It is incumbent on all policy makers to be educated on the needs of this growing population, for the benefit of the youth, their families and our communities so all will thrive.
