Kevin Bradley, PHILLIPS Family Partners, received an award from the Fairfax Association of School Social Workers. Each year this group selects someone from the community who has made an outstanding contribution in the social work arena. This year they selected Kevin for this prestigious award.

Karen Steshko, Career Education Coordinator at PHILLIPS School ~ Annandale, recently won the 2010 VAISEF Make A Difference Award. She was presented the award at the Annual VAISEF Conference in Charlottesville, VA. For the past 15 years Karen has been making a difference in the lives of the students PHILLIPS serves, the staff she works with and the entire organization. She has provided exceptional guidance, educational and life lessons service to special needs children and their families. She has made a significant positive impact on the entire PHILLIPS community. Karen has made a difference in the lives of students with special needs by working with the business community to understand and support the students. As a result of her leadership, over 50 businesses provide work opportunities to PHILLIPS students. Many have worked with Karen for over 10 years! One employer said of Karen “I am so pleased to see someone leading and advocating for students with special needs”.

The 2009 MANSEF Inspiring Dreams, Changing Lives Award winner is Sharnet Chavis of PHILLIPS School ~ Laurel. This award is presented to an employee or a volunteer of a MANSEF school, who through consistent, ongoing service and dedication to children and youth with special needs, has demonstrated a commitment to “Inspiring Dreams and Changing Lives.” Mrs. Chavis, Supervisor of Counseling and Family Service at PHILLIPS School ~ Laurel, is described as someone who builds bridges so students navigate uncertainty to achieve academic success, emotional growth, personal development and healthful interpersonal relationships. For more than seventeen years she has supported students and their families at PHILLIPS. MANSEF congratulates her on her many achievements and recognizes her efforts through this award.
