Making It Work Gala

Making It Work: A Night to Remember

This year’s gala, Making It Work, was an extraordinary evening filled with energy, connection, and celebration. The event brought together supporters, partners, and friends to honor the meaningful impact PHILLIPS continues to make in the lives of young people.

Hosted by NBC Washington news anchor Shawn Yancy, a highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Community Engagement Award to Maryland State Senator Cory McCray, whose powerful remarks underscored the importance of investing in youth and the transformative power of community. His message, reflected in his memoir titled The Apprenticeship That Saved My Life, resonated deeply and reminded all in attendance why this work matters.

The live auction, always a crowd favorite, was a resounding success. Guests enthusiastically participated in spirited bidding, helping to raise critical funds that directly support our programs and students.

As the program concluded, the celebration continued with a fun-filled afterparty. Guests took to the dance floor for line dancing, bringing energy and laughter to close out the evening. A special piece of the afterparty was the selection of delicious macarons, thoughtfully prepared by students in our culinary arts program—an inspiring and flavorful showcase of their talent and skill.

All in all, it was a memorable evening that truly embodied the spirit of the phrase, "making it work." We are deeply grateful to our attendees and sponsors, whose generosity and commitment make our mission possible. Your support ensures that we can continue creating opportunities and brighter futures for the young people we serve.

PS: Next year's celebration will be in our 60th year. Check back for updates!
